9 DIY Scents for Home to Make it Smell Amazing

We always try to keep our houses clean, tidy and smelling fresh. But, bad smells can come in from anywhere like your leftover food, worn socks, unwashed laundry, and other such things.

So here are some DIYs to make your house smell great without using any of those expensive harsh chemical filled room fresheners and scented candles. And the good thing about using these DIYs is that you can choose your fragrance and its intensity. Also, most of these can be made using the basic things available in your kitchen.

1. Reed Diffuser

All you need, to make your house smell good is reed diffuser. Easy to make and attractive enough to be kept anywhere in the house.

You just require a vase or jar, baby oil, essential oils, bamboo skewers or rattan diffusing sticks and ribbon and washi tape to make it look attractive.

Also, you do not need to change the diffusing sticks very frequently. You will notice the scent decreasing in some time and generally needs to be changed in a month or so.

2. Beeswax Candles

Love candles? Use them to light up your place and make it smell good too. 

Material required to make these:

Glass Jar, Beeswax, Wicks, Baking Sheet, Oven / Microwave.

Place wicks in the jars and fill them with beeswax. Heat the oven to 200 F and place the jars on a microwave sheet and put them in the microwave. The entire process may take up to an hour or 1 hour and 30 minutes.

These candles not only make your place smell amazing but also have a purifying effect.

3. Deodorizing Disks

Sick of the smell coming from your garbage area, shoe racks, gym bags? 

Make these deodorizing disks using just 3 ingredients i.e. Baking Soda, Water, and Essential Oils.

You just need to put a disk wherever you get this stinky smell and you get a nice deodorized smell. And the best part about making them is that you can make them in any of your favorite fragrance.

4. Stove Simmer

Guests coming? Want your house to smell nice and fresh while they are there?

Simmer some water in a saucepan. Add to it your favorite smelling herbs and fruit slices. You can also use fruit peels.

You can add other ingredients of your choice. 

Always add 1 part of ingredients to 3 parts of water.

This is the easiest and the quickest way to make your place smell perfect.

5. Perfumed Cotton Ball Bombs

Soak cotton balls in your choice of oil or cologne and tuck them at places where they are not visible. You can tuck these cotton balls in between the couches of your sofa or at the corners. They make the area smell nice. 

This is the easiest DIY. And the good part of this is that you can change the fragrance that you want according to your preferences.

6. Cinnamon Orange Air Freshener

Stir together 1 tablespoon polymer absorbent crystals, 1 cup of water and 10-20 drops of essential oils. Stir until blended. No crystals should be left.

Put the mixture into mason jars and keep the jars off lid wherever you wish to.

7. Essential Oils Diffuser

Have an empty diffuser? Save some money and make your home still smell fresh and amazing. Just fill the diffuser with water, add a few drops of essential oils (lavender, mint or anything that you love smelling) and turn it on. Your place will smell amazing without getting a new diffuser.

If you don’t have a diffuser simply take a clean spray bottle fill it with water add a few drops of essential oils in it and spray it on your upholstery, in the closet, shoe racks, and other such places.

Add a little liquid soap in this solution and use this to clean the furniture to leave them smelling fresh and amazing after cleaning.

8. Crazy For Coffee?

Are you that crazy coffee lover? If yes, make yourself smell coffee even when you are just opening your closet.

Take some coffee beans or coffee grinds in a small bowl and place them in your closet, cupboards or shoe racks. Coffee neutralizes odors and smells good too. 

Just don’t forget to change them in a week or so since the coffee beans/grounds dry up.

Coffee beans/grinds can also be used to neutralize odors that you smelled and smell other fragrances.

9. Dried Lavender Leaves Sachets

Keeping dried lavender leaves sachets in your house is another simple way to keep it smelling fresh.

These dried leaves are available online and at local stores. 

You might also get fragrances other than lavender. 

Just keep them in a small bowl or a sachet on your dining table or in your living room and this will make it smelling fresh and alive.
